Revival Recap
By: Chelynn Broughton
In September Church That Matters will be going through a significant transition as Pastor Rusty Gunn steps down and Pastor Kyle Henderson takes over. One way the leadership at CTM is helping in this transition is by hosting a revival.
What exactly is Revival?
Ultimately, revival breathes new life into both the individual and the church as a whole.
It is a sacred time for the church to refocus on God, experience spiritual renewal, and realign with its mission. Revival reignites, recommits, seeks repentance, and restores those who open their hearts.
The word “revive” is mentioned over 30 times in the King James Version of the Bible. The Hebrew word chayah (pronounced "kah-YAH"), meaning “to live, revive, or make alive,” appears 264 times in the Old Testament. Verses like Psalm 119: 107…

I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.
Rusty Gunn says that revival begins when you draw a circle around yourself and make sure everything in that circle is right with God!
The revival at Church That Matters March 30th through April 1st was truly a powerful and transformative experience as we were blessed by messages from our CTM overseers.
K.J. challenged us to take steps of faith without waiting for clarity, encouraging us with truths like:
“The reason you can trust stepping into ‘unknown waters’ is because you are stepping into a place where God has already been.”
and
“Faith in God is believing that God can; trusting God is acting like He already has.”
Greg introduced a powerful metaphor, likening many people to unopened cake boxes.
He reminded us that we reach our full potential only when others invest in us — adding ingredients, mixing, and baking — before we can become the “cake” we were meant to be.
Rayden (our “fun-sized Snickers”) reminded us that, “Only God knows, but He won’t just tell you. You have to experience it yourself.” and noted, “We don’t fear change; we fear the unknown.”
Each of these speakers touched on the leadership transition taking place at CTM, offering encouragement and reminding us that this is not just a change — it’s a divinely orchestrated transformation.
We are deeply grateful for their obedience to God’s calling and for the powerful move of the Holy Spirit we experienced during this special time together. I, for one, look forward to the journey God leads us on this year. Don’t be afraid to get your feet wet; work toward reaching your full potential, and welcome the unknown path that God has set before you.
