REVERSE OFFERING
On January 3rd, we flipped the script and put the offerings in the hands of the people who are the church to go BE the church in various ways. We gave away a total $15,000 that day for people to personally use for ministry. Each person/family received an envelope with amounts ranging from $10 - $500. These are some of the stories that have been shared with us about how they used the funds...
April Ball
Offering Amount - $20
How I used my offering:
I left it with Mary Swafford at Boulder Coffee to pay for customers’ coffee.
How did this impact you or others?
She said it carried through ALL day. When my $20 ran out, the next person left money, and the next person left money – lots of free coffees.

How I used my offering:
Gifted it with an encouraging note to a co-worker. We have discussed church before. Praying it blesses her and reminds her that people can be hurtful, but God is always loving.
How did this impact you or others?
She texted me later and told me it had been a rough week and morning, but when she read the note reminding her that she matters and God sees/hears her, the bad went away. It was Just what she needed. I am so thankful to have this opportunity. It’s a reminder that blessing someone isn’t always a grand gesture. It can be something as simple as an encouraging word. We should all do this more often.

I placed a seed in addiction crisis with Project Hope Recovery Center.

Impacted greatly and thankfully. They were outside of Phelps grocery, at first, I just said hello, then realized this was my opportunity to use Church That Matters reverse offering. I have been thru an addiction recovery program in Tulsa OK 10 years ago. So, I got back out of my car, talked with the gentlemen from Project Hope and knew the offering could be used to help!!

When I prayed with him – he cried! This was pure God – I should not have been where I was. There was no reason for me to turn down that street. God took the wheel! Thank You Lord for all you do for and through me! This man will be in my prayers for a long time!

Asked God to show us who to bless. It was an older couple at Walmart and we paid for their groceries.

They accepted the blessing and prayer with open arms. It was a proud moment for me because Cael was able to participate and see and know how it feels to bless others. The couple was very thankful, and it was a bold step for my family to pray for others aloud, especially strangers. We all left in better moods than when we went in.

I have prayed and prayed over this and asked for direction on how to use it to bless others. I felt led to use it and stretch it to bless several people/families. I paid for an elderly lady’s groceries at Aldi. Anonymously paid for a family’s pizza at Lil Caesars and used the remainder for a family at Braums.
How did this impact you or others?
It was an awesome feeling and blessing. It was like a dandelion effect – stretching it out to be a blessing to 3 individuals/family. The elderly lady at Aldi was the only one I spoke with and we talked about how the church is the hands and feet of God. It was truly a double-sided blessing.

I had a guy ask me for $12 for a haircut because he hadn’t been able to afford one for 3 months. I gave him the $20 and asked him to tell someone about Jesus while he was getting his hair cut. I also bought $80 of groceries for him and his 2 boys.

I have not heard how that went yet, but he promised to let me know.

How I used my offering:
On Friday night when it was so cold outside, 2 homeless men were on the sidewalk asking people for a $1. At first, I told him that I didn’t have any cash and then I remembered the $30 so I went back and told him that God wanted me to give him this. He was so thankful and both men gathered up. (They were huddled on the sidewalk with only a blanket to cover them).
How did this impact you or others?
I pray that they were able to go somewhere warm and get a hot meal. God knows, but I will never know.

A 5th grader at my school asked me to duct tape his shoe together. As I did this, I asked him what kind of shoes he would like if he could have any kind he wanted. He said he would like the tie kind from Walmart. He left my office and I pulled up Nike basketball shoes and he was able to pick any shoes he wanted. He could not believe I would be able to afford $75 shoes. I had to order them so they have not come in yet and I cannot wait to give them to him.

This kiddo is often in trouble and teachers never give him a chance. He acts out for attention. He just wants to be #1 to someone. I adore him.

When she received the envelope, she began to cry and told me that this truly was a blessing and that it could not have come at a better time. Jill & I felt blessed to be able to to help someone out in need.

The Lord spoke to me before your announcement to give the money I personally had in my purse (I had a massage the day before and had $100-not warriors refuge). I argued because I worked hard for it. He told me it’s not mine any way so I leaned over and gave to a mom next to me who began to weep telling me how this year had been very difficult with several deaths in her family and her husband working out of state barely making ends meet. I then added $20 to the gift.

He gave her my cell number and prayed with her. She also left with one of our “I am Enough” rings.

We purchased (4) $40 gift cards while at Walmart and handed them out as a family. One family had recently moved to Oklahoma from Kansas. They have no family here and have been thinking about finding a church to attend. We told them about our church and extended an invitation to attend. We had 2 gift cards left to hand out and came upon a lady named Stephanie and her son Jacob. We told them we what we were doing and asked if it were okay to bless them. They had a lot of groceries and still had the back of their shopping list to finish. We decided we wanted to give them the 2 remaining cards we had. Stephanie said they had been having a difficult time lately and this really would help them.

All the individuals we handed gift cards to genuinely seemed thankful for the blessing. We prayed together and wished them a great day!

How I used my offering:
We combined our 3 envelopes ($80) with Chelsie and J Vermillion ($70) to give to our neighbors. Our neighbors have little money and would still do anything to help another person. They are beyond humble, despite Jerry recently being laid off. WE gave the money, expressed that we would love them to attend with us, and explained the reverse tithe.

He was clearly moved and explained his different encounters with churches. He expressed his need and want to return, and we believe we have opened a new door for them with CTM.

How I used my offering:
I sent $200 to a girl that lives in Texas. A single mom that is raising 2 kids. One child is very ill. She has no family. Her mom passed. Used to work with her mom. I sent it to her and told her to take the kids out to a nice meal. Or whatever she might need.
How did this impact you or others?
She cried and said I finally feel like I have a family! This crushed me. I cannot fanthom raising children – having ho help from family and how that would feel especially at holidays.

We combined money with Nicole Sigmon and the Hamiltons to purchase a refrigerator for a lady. Laura Hamilton found a lady named Beatrice on facebook who was searching for an inexpensive refrigerator as she did not have much money to spend on one. Laura contacted her and asked if it were okay if we could purchase one for her. We took our families and picked out a brand-new fridge. We all went together as well to deliver it to her.
How did this impact you or others?
Come to find out she had lost her job in February and has been out of work since then, so this was year has been a difficult one for her and her family.

How I used my offering:
Purchased supplies to create 20 “blessing bags” for homeless in downtown.
How did this impact you or others?
This aided both us and my kids in understanding how blessed we are. It provided 20 people with much needed supplies and prayers. A large group of people downtown joined in a prayer circle with us. They had so much joy for being in such a rough place. It showed me how much homeless people look out for each other. (Making sure friends came to see us.)

We were led to pay for a couple’s meal. The husband has terminal cancer and has the wife is recovering from a stroke.
How did this impact you or others?
It made me feels God’s love, by listening to him. God led us to a couple that needed a blessing and reminder that God knows what we need and when we need it. The husband cried and just did not understand why we were doing this act of kindness for them. The only thing I could say was that God knew they needed this and led us to them. For my children to see this was a blessing.

Bought work shoes for a lady who just left a domestic situation and living with her daughter in a safe location. We added a $20 gift card as well. She is a mom doing her best for her daughter and did not have enough money to buy waterproof shoes for herself.

She said she was shocked that I would pick her to help. Everyone is important.

I believe he was impacted because he said, “it’s funny you ask me be because my mom and I were just talking about finding a church.” I gave Hunter my phone number and I will be praying for him and his mom to find a good church family (hopefully CTM obviously!) God is so good! And I originally only had $20 to give but somehow, I found an extra $20! I believe God knew I wanted to give more!

How did this impact you or others?
My wife Hanah, our two daughters, and I went to El Maguey for lunch right after the worship encounter on January 3rd where we were given the “reverse offering.” As we were eating, I was feeling led to give my $50 offering to someone, but I was also nervous about it. Finally, I worked up the courage to give the money to our waiter. (plus, a good tip after that). I told him God loves him and that he has a plan for his life, and that he sent his son Jesus to die for our sins. Alex as very grateful. He kept saying “God bless you!” He also said if we were ever to come back (which we will) to ask for Alex Jr. I will be praying that if Alex is not saved this encounter and my future encounters with him will bear fruit.

Her grandmother let me pray with her as well. It made me overjoyed to give so generously and pray with my new sister in Christ. I was sad I have not done more of this, and I will be looking for opportunities.

I gave my offering to a young woman who worked at Sonic. I felt God telling me to go there the day I received the money when I gave it to her. She was shocked and thanked me. I told her it was not me, but God and that he loves her, has a plan for her, and sent his son to die for her.

I may not know how this will impact her, but I know God does. It felt powerful to bless someone and makes me want to be more open-handed with my money in the future. Thank you for this opportunity to minister to others! I love my church!

I gave it to a young 17-year-old high school boy who is working at Church’s Chicken. He has a challenging life. Both his parents had been ini prison. My daughter and I drove thru the drive thru Saturday 1/2/21 night and this young man encouraged me. He knows my continued legal battle to get guardianship of my grandson. I have prayed over this money asking God to direct me through the Holy Spirit. I drove back through the drive thru Friday. I felt led to this money to him. 1/8/21.

It was a double-sided blessing! I could see the smile in his eyes (and he had his mask on). He thanked me. I told him I wanted him to be blessed and that he had encouraged me with his kind words.

The young lady got tears in her eyes and said “aawww, thank you! She asked if she could hug me and I told her that her and her family matter to God! I never shop at Cash Savers grocery store. I had been praying over my envelopes and asking that the Holy Spirit to guide me. I pulled into the parking lot because I felt led there and I also felt led to give the $40 to this young mother buying groceries. It was an indescribable feeling as if I had just taken a drink of hot cocoa and warmth just went through me.

We met a guy at Pets Mart who just 2 little girls had born early and in NICU for 5 weeks. We had been praying for his family all week and knew it was the one we wanted to bless.

His story remained heavy on our hearts and continue to pray. We have since learned one of his girls, Tinsley, has come home. I was able to share with him what our church is doing and encouraged him to join us online. We put together a gift from all of us and in addition to the offering from the church. He was overwhelmed and so thankful for the gifts and the prayers. It was great to see how doing this was such a blessing to someone so unsuspecting.

How did this impact you or others?
It gave my family and I a feeling like we have never felt. It made us realize how fortunate we really are. This specific family had food sat aside they could not afford. My 4-year-old paid for their food by inserting the money in the self-checkout. She was so excited and has not stopped talking about it. This church has truly changed my family’s lives.
