Sabbatical FAQ
How long will Pastor Rusty be gone? . . .
June 21st - August 30th
Will Megan be on Sabbatical with Pastor Rusty? . . .
Kind of. Megan will take some time away with Rusty during this sabbatical, but she will not be gone the entire 10 weeks.
Who will cover Pastor’s responsibilities? . . .
Preaching - We will have a mix of our staff and church leaders along with outside speakers. We are putting intentional effort into making sure that we will receive quality preaching each week.
Day to Day Operations – Jonathan Williams will be the go-to for decisions and leadership. Jim Stecker, Amanda Hall, and Michael Wilson will also be responsible for the day to day operations of the church.
Pastoral Care/Weddings/Funerals – Jim Stecker is already over these ministries. Our House Churches already function as our primary source of pastoral care. Our Elders will continue to meet during pastor’s sabbatical and will continue to lead as shepherds of our congregation.
Will Church That Matters be in a “holding pattern” while Pastor is away? . . .
Absolutely Not! All of our ministries will continue as usual while Pastor Rusty is away, and even new ones may begin! Outreach into our community will ramp up even more through the summer. AND we are going to work hard to move the ball forward on our building expansion and remodel. It is important to remember that the Pastoral Spiritual Renewal is a two-way process: while Pastor is on his journey of sabbatical rest, renewal, discernment and reflection, Church That Matters will be on a journey as well – embracing the occasion for our own reflection and renewed focus on God’s call to be His Body.
Will Pastor Rusty be in contact with us while he is on his sabbatical? . . .
An important part of this process is for Pastor Rusty to make a complete break from the things that he does day in and day out as work in and forthe church. If Pastor Rusty is needed to be contacted for an extraordinary emergency, Jonathan Williams will be the one contacting him. Please honor Pastor Rusty’s time away.
